Cute ice cream/sorbet spot in NDG. We came on a Monday evening and there was no line! Just a continuous stream of people coming in and out; mainly kids/families.
Watermelon is easily the most popular item here but they have some unique Asian flavours (durian banana, taro, strawberry lychee, HK milk tea and Vietnamese coffee).
- Strawberry sorbet ($4.20) - mild strawberry flavour but was very light and refreshing.
- Watermelon soft serve ($4.20) - M got this and it melted fast. She gave it two thumbs waaaay up.
To me, not as satisfying as the other ice cream spots in town but still worth a visit. 3.5 stars.
So I've been back so many times now that I lost count. I love this place so much that it's now my go-to place for ice cream. My favourite thing about CA LEM is that they have a new flavour of the week every Wednesday, which is exciting and keeps us going back!
I think the decor is very cute. I love the outdoor seating and all-around great staff. You can ask to try a sample of any flavour you might be unsure about.
The ice cream flavours themselves have vibrant colours and interesting flavour combinations. Some are much more subtle while others burst (like PB&J, strawberry cheesecake, vietnamese coffee, and mojito). Shockingly, I really love their Vegan ice cream - pandan & coconut flavours. Delicious, creamy and smooth without dairy. Amazed.
Do yourselves a favour and go!
In the last few years Montrealers started taking ice cream rather seriously, delving away from the usual DQ soft serve or Baskin Robbins scoops, ice cream shops have been popping up all around Montreal. The trend has ranged from Italian gelato, to soft serve, to frozen custard, and even Asian inspired scoops of ice cream that transcend the usual green tea ice cream. Every borough has their own local ice cream shop, and in NDG its Ca Lem!
